WAR VETERANS SHOULD BE TREATED WITH RESPECT AND SHOULD BE TAKEN INTO THE MAIN STREAM SOCIETY
2009-01-08 11:38We see quite often physically deformed people. Some have lost either a hand or a leg; some are deprived of either their sight or hearing; others are mentally malformed and do not understand what they do or what is right and wrong. In short, all these persons are disable to a lesser or greater degree.
This is generally known as physical or mental disability which falls into two categories. The first is known as the born disability and the other is the disability caused by various accidents. Both types are sometimes curable.
The second kind of disability which takes place on account of accidents is sudden, unexpected and occurs in various unforeseen circumstances. It may be a motor car crashing against you, or your falling from a roof top or a tree or you are a victim of a landslide or an earth quake. Lastly, there is the disability to which a soldier is always subjected to at the battle front.
It is this type of disability that a soldier undergoes that should engage our particular attention. What is the specialty behind the disability which a soldier suffers? As regards other accidents, the victim does not know that he will be subjected to such a fate. But the soldier knows that if he becomes a target to the enemy he will either lose his life or be maimed forever.
It is willingly or voluntarily that the soldier faces this situation, and he knows beforehand that his life is at risk, whereas the victims of casualties of other mishaps referred to above do not. If they knew them in advance, they would take some kind of action to avoid them. This is the difference between the two situations, and it boosts the soldier to a greater degree of respectability.
By implication there arises the very important question; if the soldier knew in advance the ultimate result of his fighting at the battle front, why did he, then, join the army, then navy or the air force? Was he frustrated with life? It is the other way about. Not that he loved his life less but he loved his country more.
We have a shining example of a courageous army coming from tiny Sri Lanka, an island nation in the Indian Ocean, which has been fighting the cruelest terrorist outfit in the world for the last thirty years. Thousands of them have died and many have been maimed for life in their brave endeavor to safeguard the territorial integrity of their motherland.
How should the people show their gratitude to this patriotic lot for risking themselves for the sake of the country? If the people for whom they suffered forget them, they will surely say “Traitors arms are better than ingratitude”.
It is the duty of the masses, on behalf of whom they sacrificed every thing, to help them in whatever manner possible so that they will feel that they did not fight in vain and that the whole nation is behind them. They should be convinced that, even if they are limbless and partially disable, they are still useful citizens and not a burden on the society, who can still do much for their motherland.
The way to do this is not difficult. They must be taken back to the mainstream of active life and their latent skills exploited to the maximum. If necessary, they can be trained in a suitable trade in keeping with their physical ability. In the public service as well as the private sector a percentage of jobs should be reserved for disable war veterans as a mark of the nation’s gratitude for their selfless service. The nation is ever under obligation to these heroes for ensuring the safety and integrity of the country for future generations yet unborn.
MyHome-MyOffice.com is prepared to take up this challenge and train few selected capable war veterans to work from home. Who is willing to partner with MyHome-MyOffice.com and take this project off the ground? We are not looking at grants or donations which we are totally against! We need ethically motivated firms around the globe who could give us technical assistance, initial setting up and above all your work so that these brave men and women, who sacrificed their TODAY for our TOMORROW, will be able to make use of their dormant knowledge, experience and expertise to regain their lost pride, self esteem and reputation while engaging in a meaningful trade. Are you willing to take up this challenge and make a difference in this part of the world?
(We need to get Governemnt's permission to do this but if there is an opportunity, we can always write to the relevant authorities and get their permission and blessing)
